Her name is Mackenzie. She's a younger woman (by 34 days), bald, sticks her tongue out when she's happy, wears a bib that says "high maintenance", and sleeps in the next crib over at day-care. Jack made the first move (which, really isn't surprising because she can't crawl yet). About a week ago, he army-crawled over to her and planted a big, sloppy kiss on her cheek. The feelings were mutual, and since their "first kiss", Mackenzie has routinely rolled her way over to Jack to show her affection, and vice versa.
Photographic evidence was sent home this week along with Jack's usual day-care notes depicting Mackenzie's advances! They are a little grainy, you know, in an 'US Weekly exclusive'/paparazzi photo kind of way. But there's no doubt - she's going in for a smooch!
The two are smitten with each other. According to his teacher, Jack was having a rough morning earlier this week, and after plopping him down next to his "girl", he was instantly laughing and all smiles. She's the sunshine to his gray skies. The peas to his carrots. His first crush.
Yesterday morning when I dropped Jack off, I got to experience the lovebirds in action first-hand.
I've literally never seen anything like it!
The second Jack and Mackenzie locked eyes, the classroom was filled with squealing, giddy laughter, and cooing noises. They both had grins from ear to ear, and were touching each others bald heads affectionately while staring lovingly at each other.
Don't get me wrong. Jack gets really excited to see me, Pat, or Colin, but we've NEVER gotten a reaction like the one he gave Mackenzie! Never! There's just something about that cute little six month old that has caught his eye.
Maybe they will go to Prom together, or get married?! That is if he doesn't marry Stella (in a double wedding with Colin and Anna....) first. Not that Kate and I have ever discussed that or took pictures in anticipation of putting together a wedding slide show...(ha!)
But for now, Jack loves Mackenzie. He just better hope the other boys in the Infant A room don't learn to roll/crawl/scoot anytime soon so he can have her all to himself!
