With the winning combination of my type-A personality and sheer love for to-do lists (is that anyone elses favorite part about Monday mornings?), I've put together our Summer Bucket List. It's mostly simple things. Let's not forget, we work full time and have two kids in day-care, so time and money are at a premium. But that doesn't mean we can't make the most out of the summer of 2012! I want to get to Labor Day with no regrets and plenty of popsicles, memories and miles on the stroller!
- Go to the zoo to see the Lion ("who sleeps allll day"), the Camel ("has loooong eyelashes"), the Elephants ("eat peanuts"), and the Lion again because it's Colin's favorite.
- Go to the zoo on the last Friday of the school year, ensure there are at least 50 school buses in the parking lot before you enter (CHECK!)
- See how many different color polos Colin can wear in one summer
- Buy ice cream when the ice cream truck drives around our neighborhood (even if it's before dinner)
- Grill dinner at least once per week (hot dogs don't count), eat outside, marvel at how clean the kitchen floor is when you come back in.
- Take family pictures on the beach at sunset
- Find a good sunscreen (needs to smell good and not irritate sensitive skin)
- Go to the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings to buy fruits, veggies, pasta, and cheese
- Add to the baseball and floppy hat collection
- Keep hanging flower baskets alive (it they make it to 4th of July, this is an accomplishment)
- Get Colin's haircut for the second time
- Try 10 new fruits and veggies (should be easy to for Jack!)
- Attempt to make Jack's baby food. Don't feel guilty when you buy Gerber after failed baby food making attempt.
- Sunday cookouts with our family, break out the corn hole boards that we got last summer (and never used)
- Watch Indians games on our patio, with Colin, after Jack goes to bed
- Watch Indians games on our patio, with a beer, after the kids go to bed
- Take boys to an Indians game, buycotton candy - let Colin have a few bites.
- Sign Colin up for swim lessons, or at least go to the Avon Lake pool (which is actually open on Sundays - not used to that growing up in Bay Village)
- Watch Jack crawl (he's already up on all fours and kicking his legs - won't be long now!)- Celebrate Jack's 6th, 7th, and 8th month birthdays (shed a little tear at how quickly the time is going)
- Watch a movie with Colin (guarantee this doesn't happen - he can't sit still for more than 5 minutes to watch tv)
- Play at the Splash Pad at Crocker Park, too bad it's not acceptable for adults to play too - it looks fun!
- Nightly walks in the stroller to the playground
- Find matching Hawaiian shirts for Father's Day (Pat's tradition)
- Lots of ice cream, popsicles, and Otter Pops!
- Better yet - make our own popsicles!
- Finally see an end to allergy season (wait, does it ever end??)
- Lake Erie Crushers games for fireworks night
- Console two traumatized boys after fireworks
- Dress the boys in as many matching outfits as possible
- Lose the last 10 lbs of baby-weight
- Survive the drive to South Carolina, probably would be easier to accomplish if Colin watched movies.
- Throw away to-do list for our week-long vacation in South Carolina.
- Take a 1/2 day of work when the Indians have a 1pm game and go with Pat, then pick kids up from day-care!
- Look for the frog in our backyard, pray that Pat is around when we find it!
- Keep fridge stocked with Summer Shandy, Corona, limes, and Capri Sun
- Let Colin help water the grass - play in the sprinkler - it might be easier than getting him in the bathtub!
- Grow veggies in the garden - cook with them!
- Draw with side-walk chalk, blow bubbles, and lay on our backs in the grass to find shapes in the clouds.
- Let the kids go to bed late every once in awhile - it is summer afterall (bonus if they sleep past 6am the next day, not likey!)
I'm already looking forward to the months ahead and crossing off (and adding new) items to our Bucket List!
